Level 1 (duration 1 day)Introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.
Level 2 (duration 2 days)
Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the ICC. The level 2 course covers both essential theory and practice; we spend 2 half days or more on the water practicing the skills needed to operate a small powerboat. You will be involved with safety checks, launching and recovery, slow and fast boat handling, coming alongside, picking up a mooring/divers, anchoring and Man Over Board (MOB) using a weighted buoy.
RYA Intermediate Powerboat (duration 2 days)For candidates wishing to carry out more interesting journeys. Covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters, using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques.
RYA Advanced Powerboat (duration 2 days)
Course for kleisure and professional boaters wanting to undertake more adventurous trips in small powernoats. Duration 2 days including 1 night navigation exercise. This award can be put towards the MCA Certificate of Competence. Also needed will be the RYA sea survival certificate, VHF/DSC radio qualification, first aid certificate and MCA medical.
International Certificate of Competence (ICC) (duration 2 days)
Many countries require visiting boaters to hold a certificate of competence. If you are planning to sail or cruise within Europe and the Mediterranean the RYA recommends skippers to hold the ICC. The CEVNI exam is required for the inland waterways of Europe.
